Man United could be without seven players for their game against Wolves on Sunday afternoon at Old Trafford.

Manchester United produced an historic comeback in their last fixture, scoring two goals in the final minutes of the game against Lyon to progress to the Europa League semi-finals where they will play against Athletic Bilbao.

However, before then, they’ve got a game against Wolves at Old Trafford in the Premier League, where they will be hoping to keep their momentum from midweek. In terms of injury updates, United could be without seven players for the game on Sunday.

Wolves’ injury news suggests that they could be missing seven players too, as they have several names who are in doubt ahead of the game at Old Trafford.

Man United’s current injury list

The Red Devils aren’t likely to see any new returns against Wolves, despite the fact that they have a couple of players who are close to getting back to full match fitness.

Firstly, Joshua Zirkzee joined Lisandro Martinez as the latest player to be ruled out for the rest of the season after he suffered a hamstring injury during United’s 4-1 defeat to Newcastle last weekend.

In terms of players who are due to return, Amad Diallo is working to get back from his ankle injury before the end of the season, it is not yet understood whether this will take place.

Ayden Heaven and Matthijs de Ligt are both nearing a return as they both have foot injuries. They won’t be around this weekend, but could come back at the start of May. Jonny Evans is also back in training as he works to return from his back issue but he remains a doubt.

Toby Collyer is arguably the closest to a return, as he is dealing with a knock that he picked up early in April. He could come back before the end of the month.

Ruben Amorim’s comments on the squad fitness

The Man United boss recently spoke about De Ligt, after the defender suffered his foot injury against Nottingham Forest at the start of the month. He said: “Matta has a problem in his foot, we are trying to assess. We still don't have the data that he can return.”

He also spoke on Collyer, who is reportedly the closest to making a return to full match fitness. Amorim said: “Toby has a small issue in his leg, so we hope to have him in a few weeks.”

Impact on team selection and tactics

The biggest absence at the moment for Man United is Zirkzee, as they have struggled for goals all season long, and so losing a striker to an injury is what Amorim could have done without.

It means that Rasmus Hojlund is likely to start almost every game until the end of the season, which could be a problem, seeing as he has netted just three goals in the Premier League this year.

In their last game, Amorim decided to play Harry Maguire up front in a surprising move during their win against Lyon, but it paid off when the defender scored the winning goal late on.

Wolves’ injury concerns

Wolves could be missing seven players for the game on Sunday afternoon. Three players are a doubt for the game with the most likely to return being defender Matt Doherty, who picked up a knock in their last match against Spurs.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde is also a doubt for the game after he picked up a knock last week, he is currently being assessed ahead of Sunday’s clash. 18-year-old Pedro Lima could return too as he is recovering from an ankle sprain, he could make the bench on Sunday.

In terms of players to miss the game at Old Trafford, Sasa Kaladjzic will be out as he is dealing with a long-term knee injury that he suffered in January. Enso Gonzalez was ruled out for the season back in October with a knee injury.

Furthermore, Yerson Mosquera and Leon Chiwone are also out for the remainder of the year as they both are dealing with long-term knee injuries.
