Man United look set to sign a striker in the summer transfer window in search of more goals.

It has been a disappointing season for Man United, who sit 13th in the Premier League table and head into the weekend with their hopes of silverware this season just alive still.

They drew 2-2 against Lyon in the first leg of their Europa League tie on Thursday, hoping that the Old Trafford crowd can help them through the second leg and into the semi-finals.

The biggest problem for Ruben Amorim’s side this season has been in scoring goals, as both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have combined for a total of six in the Premier League. Due to their lack of firepower up top, the Red Devils are likely to sign a striker in the summer and could decide to swap one of Hojlund or Zirkzee to make it financially more doable.

Man United in “talks” over Osimhen swap deal

One striker that the Red Devils have been linked to is Napoli attacker Victor Osimhen, who has been on loan at Turkish side Galatasaray this season. He fell out with Napoli and was seeking a summer transfer last year, but as he couldn’t find one, it was a loan move to Galatasaray.

The move has been a success for Osimhen, who has scored 28 goals in 32 games for the Turkish side, meaning his market value has remained fairly high. He also has a £62m release clause in his contract and is likely to leave Napoli permanently this summer when he returns from loan.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Sport, Man United are working to secure the signing of Osimhen in the summer, and are considering offering Hojlund in a swap deal to go to Napoli as part of the transfer.

Reports have been circulating recently, suggesting that United are willing to sell Hojlund this summer, with Napoli being one of the teams named as interested in the Danish international.

Hojlund is estimated to be worth around £39m according to TransferMarkt, and so United could swap him, and would likely need to add in an additional fee to make up the difference for Osimhen’s release clause. A swap deal would benefit United who are in a precarious position with regards to PSR, meaning that their net spend would be limited if Hojlund went the other way in a deal for Osimhen.

Manchester United “hold talks” with Premier League striker

Osimhen isn’t the only striker to be attracting attention from Man United ahead of the summer transfer window, as they are also reportedly keen on Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, who revealed last month that he wants to leave for a bigger club this summer.

Cunha signed a new contract at Molineux in January as he didn’t want to leave them whilst in a relegation battle, but seeing as Vito Pereira’s side are 12 points clear of the drop, they appear to be safe now. Reports have claimed that Cunha is more willing to join a traditional ‘top six’ club, which is good news for United, as Nottingham Forest are also reportedly interested in the 25-year-old, who has scored 15 goals in 29 games for Wolves this season.
