Manchester United fans might be dreading the thought of Thursday nights in Europe next season, but they were at least able to enjoy watching the Europa League this week.

Fresh from their 2-2 draw at Old Trafford last weekend, Liverpool were back in action when they faced Italian side Atalanta at Anfield last night.

In what could be Jurgen Klopp's final European home match with the club, Liverpool fell to a shock 3-0 home defeat, their joint-heaviest ever home defeat in such competition. Former West Ham forward Gianluca Scamacca scored a brace and Mario Pasalic netted a third goal late on.

Even amid their own struggles this season, United supporters will enjoy the sight of their fierce rivals stumbling during Klopp's farewell tour. They will have enjoyed Rasmus Hojlund's social media post after the match as well.

Signed from Atalanta last summer, Hojlund was delighted to see his former side secure such an emphatic victory and he joined in the celebrations at full-time.

Taking to Instagram, the United forward reposted a picture of Atalanta players celebrating the win and added the caption: 'Mola mia', a phrase often used in Bergamo, which celebrates tenacity and perseverance.

Those two traits will no doubt come in handy for the return leg next week, when Liverpool make the trip to Italy knowing that they must win by a minimum of three goals to stand any chance of reaching the semi-finals.
