"Shouldn't be so full of yourself" - Ex-Man United player sent harsh message after £40m summer exit

The former Man United star left in the summer transfer window after being ousted by Ruben Amorim.

Man United are starting to look much improved under Ruben Amorim. The ‘project’ that Amorim embarked on since he came into the Premier League has involved developing his system, and getting the United players to play the way he wants. However, it has been a struggle so far, especially last season.

In the summer, Amorim didn’t only bring new players in, he also managed to offload several names who weren’t in his plans too. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia were all in his ‘bomb squad’, and he was able to offload all but Malacia.

Rashford went on loan at Barcelona, Sancho to Aston Villa, Hojlund to Napoli and Garnacho left permanently to Chelsea. The latter is hopeful that he can make the Argentina National team ahead of the World Cup in the summer.

Garnacho sent harsh message about his ego

The winger moved from Man United to Chelsea for a fee of £40m in the summer transfer window, and managed to provide the Red Devils with some ‘pure profit’ with regards to PSR, however, United did allow him to join a rival.

Since leaving for Chelsea, Garnacho has made seven appearances, scoring one goal for Enzo Maresca’s side. He hopes to improve his performance levels and potentially get into the Argentina squad for the World Cup. However, former Argentine international Oscar Ruggeri has questioned the 21-year-old’s attitude ahead of the tournament.

He told ESPN via Sport Witness: “He’s no better than anyone else, you’re a football player, enjoy it, but you shouldn’t be so full of yourself. It’s pointless because you miss out on so much. Someone has to bring him down to earth.

“They’re not calling him up to the national team. If he comes back down to earth like he was, they’ll call him up again because he’s phenomenal on the pitch.”

Only time will tell if Maresca can nurture Garnacho with more success than Amorim and Ten Hag had at Old Trafford.

Rashford wants a permanent Barcelona move

Garnacho was the only ‘bomb squad’ member to get a permanent move straight away, with Rashford and Hojlund both on loan deals with buy options. Rashford has settled in well at Barcelona, and reports have said that he is very keen to make his move permanent as soon as possible.

He is technically contracted at United until 2028; however, the belief is that he won’t play for United ever again. The most recent reports are saying that it is only a matter of time before a permanent transfer is agreed.

Rashford himself said that a change has really benefitted him, especially ahead of the World Cup for England. He said: “People forget this, but 24, 23 years of my life was with Manchester United, so sometimes you just need a change. I think maybe this is the case with me and I’m enjoying everything.”
