Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero believes his former club don't have to look far to find 'one of the biggest threats' to their hopes of retaining the Premier League title.

Pep Guardiola's side are currently in Saudi Arabia as they prepare to kick-off their bid to become World Club Cup champions underway with a semi-final clash against Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds on Tuesday.

City head into the game on the back of an underwhelming run of Premier League form after claiming just one win in their last seven games. That has left Guardiola's men sat in fourth place in the table, five points adrift of current leaders Arsenal and three points behind Liverpool and Aston Villa, who sit in second and third place respectively.

City are not back in Premier League action until next Wednesday when they travel to in-form Everton - and their return could find them as many as 11 points behind an Arsenal side that have proven they are ready to challenge for a first title in two decades after falling short last season.

Yet it is not Arsenal, Liverpool or Villa who former City and Argentina striker Aguero has named as a key challenger to his former club's hopes of securing a fourth consecutive Premier League title - it is cross-city rivals Manchester United.

The Red Devils are currently sat in seventh place in the Premier League table ahead of a challenging festive period that will see Erik Ten Hag's men travel to West Ham United on Saturday lunchtime before hosting Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

Despite their poor form and struggles to find consistency, Aguero has warned City they can not afford to write off the 13-time Premier League champions as an exciting title race plays out over the second half of the season.

He told Stake.com: "You can never sleep on Man United at this stage of the season.

"They are one of the biggest threats to Man City’s Premier League title. I also think Tottenham are title contenders, who have improved a lot under Ange Postecoglou.  Even despite their ups and downs, Newcastle are also in with a chance of the title as they always put up a fight."
