There is yet more Premier League action this weekend after a round of midweek games that saw Manchester City draw 2-2 with Brentford and Manchester United beat Southampton 3-1.
City threw away a 2-0 lead against the Bees on Tuesday night as two goals in the 82nd and 92nd minutes rescued a draw for the hosts. At Old Trafford on Thursday, the Saints took a deserved lead against the Red Devils through Manuel Ugarte’s own goal and missed further chances to increase their advantage. United were much improved in the second half and a late flurry saw the in-form Amad score a 12-minute hat-trick to secure maximum points.

Plenty of transfer news continues to surround both clubs with City said to be looking at a fourth January signing while there continues to be interest in members of the United squad.
City talks with Andrea Cambiaso “not advanced”
Reports in Italy emerged on Thursday that Man City were in advanced talks with Juventus over a move for full-back Andrea Cambiaso with an offer of around £50m ready to be submitted. The Italian club are demanding £67m for the defender, however, as they do not want to lose him this window. That is according to Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports that Bayern Munich are also interested in the player and offers matching Juve’s evaluation will be the only ones considered.
However, BBC Sport have reported that talks over a move are not as advanced as claimed in Italy and there is “no guarantee” a deal will be struck this month. City look set to complete deals for Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Omar Marmoush this month as they aim to get their season back on track after a difficult few months. Cambiaso has made 25 appearances in all competitions this term for Juventus having joined the club from Genoa in 2022. He spent time on loan at Bologna before becoming a regular in the side at the Turin-based club.
United ‘reject’ offer for Garnacho
Napoli have submitted their first offer for United forward Alejandro Garnacho but it has been swiftly rejected by the Red Devils. According to The Mirror, Napoli made a bid of £40m but that has fallen £20m short of the Red Devils’ valuation - with the club keen to get £60m for the Argentine international. United are restricted to loans this month due to having no transfer budget to work with. Ruben Amorim would like to sign a striker and a left-back but will only get funds to do so if funds are generated from player sales.

He's finding the best way to play in this system and is improving during training. He improves a lot in the recovering position when he doesn't have the ball. But doing that, sometimes he's not in the right place to make transitions like he was in the past."
