Louis Saha believes ‘top’ European striker should snub Man City for Man Utd this summer

The former Red Devils forward believes this prolific goalscorer should opt for Old Trafford over the Etihad Stadium.

Louis Saha believes Erling Haaland should snub Manchester City for Manchester United this summer despite reports linking the latter to the Etihad Stadium.

The former Red Devils forward, who made 124 appearances during his four years in Manchester, thinks his former club is still an attractive option for the game’s biggest stars.

Speaking to gamblingdeals.com, the Frenchman, when asked if United can still lure quality players to Old Trafford said: “Yes, they will still recognise that United is a huge club, and the club will get the respect it deserves.

“Haaland is young and ready for a step up, at the moment there are obviously bigger destinations where Champions League football is guaranteed, where trophies are maybe more likely.

"I understand that. But the player [Haaland] is smart enough to understand that United will be back at the top, that’s for sure, and he will fit the bill.

"That’s what United are looking for – someone who can guarantee goals, will definitely play for many, many years and who knows, could even break records."

Haaland has been one of the most consistent strikers in football, scoring 82 goals in 86 matches for Borussia Dortmund and has attracted interest from several of Europe’s top clubs.

According to The Athletic, the Norwegian has given the ‘green light’ to move to City this summer and has ‘agreed’ personal terms with Pep Guardiola’s team.

Numerous sources claim a £64m release clause will enter the 21-year-old’s contract this summer - a fee easily affordable for the Sky Blues and Red Devils.

United are facing a new phase in their club’s history with the appointment of Erik ten Hag as their new permanent manager.

The Dutchman will join the Red Devils on a three-year deal, with an option for a further year at the end of the season.

United are likely to lose Edinson Cavani this summer due to the Uruguayan’s contract expiring and will need to replace him at the earliest opportunity.
