Liverpool 4-0 Man Utd: Player ratings & man of the match as United have ‘no energy or spirit’

Manchester United were on the end of a devastating loss at Anfield, as they were outclassed by their old foes.

Manchester United suffered another damaging defeat on Tuesday night going down against Liverpool at Anfield.

It was a first half that had all the hallmarks of a spiritless, disjointed display from the Red Devils, and Liverpool had 76% of possession at the break, while the visitors didn’t manage a single shot in the opening 45 minutes.

It was Luis Diaz who put Liverpool ahead early on, when he coolly slotted in from just a few yards out, following Mohamed Salah’s squared pass.

Soon after, the stadium was united in support of Cristiano Ronaldo, who tragically lost his newborn son on Monday. On seven minutes, both sets of fans stood and applauded in support of the attacker and his family.

However, it was Liverpool who got the next goal, courtesy of Salah. The Egypt international controlled Sadio Mane’s ball round the corner and slotted past David De Gea.

After the one-sided first half, United came into things more after the break, with Jadon Sancho producing their first effort on 55 minutes, while Alisson was on hand to make a double save to keep out Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga, although the linesman’s flag was subsequently raised.

Despite that, Mane netted in the 68th to remove any hopes of a comeback, when Diaz picked out the former Southampton man in the centre and he placed the ball into the bottom corner with extreme precision.

Salah made it four in the latter stages when he was fastened onto Diogo Jota’s ball and chipped it over De Gea, although it was helped by a slight touch off Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Here’s how we rated the players after a horrific night for United at Anfield…
