Manchester United defender Phil Jones is a target for Ligue 1 side Bordeaux, according to reports.

The 29-year-old has been at Old Trafford since 2011 but has struggled for game time in recent seasons due to competition for places, injury and mixed form.

However, Jones did make an impressive return to the side earlier this month when he played the full 90 minutes as United lost 1-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.

But there’s a possibility that could have been his final appearance for the Red Devils, with Bordeaux said to be interested in signing the former Blackburn Rovers man.

French outlet L’Equipe claim Bordeaux want to sign Jones after Otavio left the club, with Josh Maja also expected to join Stoke City on loan before the end of the window.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed the report and has tweeted to say Bordeaux are ‘seriously interested’ in Jones and hope to reach an agreement with the club, although interim manager Ralf Rangnick will have the final say.

Romano added Eric Bailly will not leave in January, which would leave United with four senior centre-backs should Jones depart: Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Bailly.

Academy graduates Axel Tuanzebe and Teden Mengi left the Red Devils on loan earlier this month, but could be options next season.

In his up-and-down time at Old Trafford, Jones has made 225 appearances and has scored six times. He has also won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League with United.
