Erik ten Hag could be without as many as eight Manchester United players for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Leeds United.

The Red Devils hosted their old rivals on Wednesday and the two sides are set to do battle once again at Elland Road just four days later. The points were shared in the midweek encounter, with Wilfried Gnoto netting early for Leeds before Raphael Varane inadvertently scored into his own goal in the second period. But a late fightback from United saw them gain a point thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.

Ten Hag was missing several regulars for the game, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka a surprise absentee when the teams were announced before kick-off. The defender was ruled out through illness and might return in time for Sunday’s match, although Ten Hag may opt to stick with Dalot at right-back.

The United manager also revealed in his pre-match press conference that Scott McTominay, Antony and Anthony Martial will not recover from injury in time to face Leeds. “I don’t expect [them to play, but we have some days obviously, and if I can oversee it until now then I don’t see any new problems coming up,” said Ten Hag.

Another guaranteed United absentee is Casemiro. The influential Brazilian was suspended for the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford after he was sent off in last weekend’s win over Crystal Palace, and the three-match ban means he won’t be involved on Sunday. Nor will long-term absentees Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek.

As for Leeds, caretaker boss Michael Skubala revealed Pascal Struijk will not be fit to feature after the defender was replaced in the first half on Wednesday, as was Luis Sinisterra. The 40-year-old said in Friday’s press conference: "Pascal has got concussion. So the medical team are following the concussion protocol so he will miss the game on Sunday which is the right decision."

Skubala also said Sinisterra will be assessed pre-match to determine his fitness, as will Liam Cooper and Marc Roca, who missed the trip to Old Trafford with knocks. "Liam and Marc we are still assessing and we'll see if we can get them involved on Sunday. So that's taking a bit of time.

“Luis is a slightly different injury. We think he'll be ok but we're still going to assess whether it will be too early for him on Sunday.

"[They are] just some slight muscle injuries. For me, it's about protecting players first and foremost. We don't want to take any risks with any players. This is a long season and we need to look after them."

Elsewhere, Stuart Dallas, Adam Foreshaw, Rodrigo, Sonny Perkins and Archie Gray are all ruled out through injury.

Doubts: Cooper, Roca, Sinisterra (Leeds); Wan-Bissaka (United)

Ruled out: Struijk, Dallas, Foreshaw, Rodrigo, Perkins, Gray (Leeds); Casemiro, McTominay, Eriksen, Van de Beek, Antony, Martial (United)
