Michael Skubala looks likely to still be in charge of Leeds United when the Yorkshire club host Manchester United on Sunday.

Leeds came away from Old Trafford with a credible 2-2 draw on Wednesday night and face their bitter rivals once again in the Premier League this weekend. Skubala was in the dugout for the midweek game in Manchester, and the Yorkshire Evening Post (YEP) have reported it’s ‘likely he will still be in charge for Sunday’s game, although Leeds continue to hope for a swift permanent appointment’.

Skubala didn’t seem sure after Wednesday’s game whether he will still be overseeing first-team duties this weekend. “All I’ve done in the last 48 hours is concentrate on the team,” he said. “I don’t know what is going on with the situation, I’m just here to support the club.”

The YEP add Leeds would give ‘serious thought’ to appointing Feyenoord boss Arne Slot with further talks ongoing between chief executive Angus Kinnear and director of football Victor Orta on Thursday. Meanwhile, Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizzani responded to a fan tweet on Wednesday asking for an update on the search for a new manager, saying: “Not yet... need more time. Let’s support the lads now.”

Rayo Vallecano manager Andoni Iraola had appeared to be the club’s first choice, but now looks set to remain in La Liga, while West Bromwich Albion boss Carlos Corberan signed a new contract at The Hawthorns as speculation grew that he was being lined up as a possible successor to Jesse Marsch, who was sacked on Monday.

Nuno Espirito Santo, Marcelo Gallardo, Ange Postecoglou and Ralph Hasenhuettl have also been suggested as possible candidates for the vacant role.

Leeds are 16th in the table going into Sunday’s clash with United, and are just a point clear of Everton in the relegation zone.
