The biggest match of Manchester City’s season so far is now just over 24 hours away from kick off and the excitement and tension is beginning to sweep over the blue half of the city.

Pep Guardiola is looking to lift the UEFA Champions League for the third time as a manager and to bring it to the Citizens for the first time in their history. Standing in their way are the most successful club in the competition’s history, 14 time winners Real Madrid who they drew 1-1 with in the Spanish capital last week in the first leg of their semi final clash.

Lifting the trophy would mark the culmination of years of work that have taken place at the Etihad Stadium as the club finally join European football’s elite in lifting UEFA’s biggest prize. Among the great clubs to have won the trophy multiple times are City’s rivals Manchester United and the rivalry between the two clubs continues to be part of the conversation when it comes to the Sky Blues’ successes.

City defender Kyle Walker spoke to the press ahead of the match with Real Madrid and touched on everything the Red Devils have achieved in their history. He said: “You have to just look over the road at Manchester United and what they have accomplished over a number of years.

“When you get compared to that team they won countless titles. We’ve done five in six years, hopefully, if we can cross the line on this one, which still isn’t over by the way because we still need to get results against Chelsea, Brighton or Brentford. The club is missing that one and the owners and the amount of money they have pumped into this club and the investment they have done, we owe that to them.

“To get to the CL final against Chelsea and not perform as well as we can, we owe that to ourselves and get some revenge for ourselves because we know that was below par on that day. But we have a tough opponent tomorrow to get past to get to the Champions League final. It’s a final, anything can happen. The first thing is getting past Real Madrid and then let’s see about the final.”
