Man United have been linked to the striker, who has a €52m release clause in his contract.

Manchester United are keen to add a striker this summer after a year in which Ruben Amorim’s side were one of the lowest scoring teams in the Premier League. Both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee combined for just seven goals last year.

Viktor Gyokeres was understood to be the first-choice, as United wanted to reunite him with Amorim, who managed him at Sporting CP. However, it was reported that Gyokeres was prioritising a move to rivals Arsenal, who are also keen to bring him in.

They have identified several other targets, such as Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, who has emerged as the frontrunner for United. But, they also have alternative options, with a Serie A striker on the radar of the Red Devils.

Moise Kean receives £250,000 per week offer

The Red Devils have been linked to signing Fiorentina striker Moise Kean, who was the second-top scorer in the Serie A last year. The Italian international netted 25 goals, and provided three assists in 44 games for Fiorentina last year.

United see Kean as a potential transfer target, and they learned that he has a €52m release clause in his contract, which works out at around £44.8m, cheaper than both Gyokeres and Watkins.

However, Man United have competition to sign Kean, as Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport have reported that Saudi Pro League side Al Qasdiah, who are trying to tempt Kean to move to Saudi Arabia, have made a contract offer of £250,000 per week. The Italian striker is currently on just £51,000 per week, so he could certainly be tempted.

Kean would be a solid addition for United, as he is a fast striker who likes to break the line and play in behind the opposing defence. He is less of a target man striker compared to the likes of Gyokeres and Watkins. The report also says that Man United are not currently speaking with Kean over a move, so it seems that the Red Devils are prioritising other targets instead of the 25-year-old.

Who could Man United sign instead?

Based on the fact that Gyokeres is prioritising Arsenal, and United aren’t speaking to Kean, Ollie Watkins remains the most likely striker for United to sign at the moment, despite the fact that Aston Villa don’t want to sell him.

The England international was subject to a £40m bid from Arsenal in January, and United reportedly offered a swap deal involving Marcus Rashford, which the United academy graduate rejected.

It is understood that the Birmingham-based club want at least £60m for the England international, just less than the Red Devils paid for Matheus Cunha at the start of the transfer window.

United will likely need to ensure they sell a couple of names in order to fund a move to bring in a new striker, with the likes of Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony all expected to depart Old Trafford this summer.
