Jurgen Klopp issues injury update on 'super important' player ahead of Man Utd vs Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has issued an update on one of his players ahead of Sunday's clash between Liverpool and Manchester United.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed a fitness boost ahead of his side's clash with Manchester United on Sunday. All eyes will be on the FA Cup quarter-final derby between United and the Reds at Old Trafford this weekend.

United have just one remaining chance at silverware - the FA Cup - while Klopp and Liverpool will want to win as many trophies as possible with the German departing after this campaign. Ahead of the Old Trafford clash, both sides are struggling with injuries, with a number of key players sidelined for both clubs.

And it's that much more difficult for Liverpool due to their involvement in the Europa League, defeating Sparta Praha 6-1 on Thursday night, winning 11-2 on aggregate. During the second leg, Kostas Tsimikas appeared to add to Liverpool's injury woes. But after the game, Klopp confirmed that the issue won't impact the Greek defender's participation in Sunday's clash with United.

“No, I think he is fine," said the German. "I’m not sure what happened to him, if he had a knock or whatever, but he should be fine.”

Tsimikas has been key in covering for absentees this season, and speaking earlier in the season, Klopp praised the Greece international for his input. He said: “We all know how good Kostas can be, but now he has the opportunity. The first performance maybe isn’t great, then you start thinking, I can only help the boys. You cannot change it.

“Most of the work the boys have to do themselves. Then you saw the first assist, it just opened up and then it’s football again that’s how it goes. Super important and really happy for him. The situation is not always easy when Robbo is fit and today you can see again how good a player he is.”
