Barcelona prodigy Gavi turned down a lucrative €5 million contract offer from Manchester United this summer, according to journalist Anais Marti Herrero.

The 18-year-old enjoyed an impressive breakthrough campaign last season as he bagged two assists and five goals in 34 league appearances, as well as earning his first four caps for Spain.

Gavi’s future had been thrown into doubt as Europe’s elite became interested in the youngster, with his contract - set to expire in 2023 - holding a €50m release clause in it.

Alongside the likes of Liverpool and Bayern Munich, United were one team who were eager to snap up Gavi and had already offered him a three-year deal worth €5m a season - however, the Spaniard opted to remain at Barca.

The Catalan club confirmed Gavi had signed a contract extension earlier this week, with his new deal set to expire in 2026.

His new contract also includes a whopping €1 billion buy-out clause, protecting Barcelona from any future attempts to lure him away from the Nou Camp.

The Red Devils have proven their ability to grow youth talent at Old Trafford, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Elanga and Scott McTominay playing their parts in the first team - however it looks very unlikely that Gavi will moving to the Premier League anytime soon.
