Joshua Zirkzee makes admission about his new Manchester United squad number

Man Utd completed the signing of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna last week.

Joshua Zirkzee is a Manchester United player but it might be a little while yet before we get to see him on the pitch.

The Dutch striker has signed a contract until June 2029, with the option to extend for a further year, after United agreed a €42.5m fee with Bologna. United agreed to pay slightly more than Zirkzee's €40m release clause so that they could stagger the fee over a three-year period rather than pay it all upfront.

Zirkzee is now entitled to a three-week break following his participation in the European Championship with the Netherlands, so is unlikely to feature during the club's pre-season tour of the United States.

United have signed Zirkzee to replace Anthony Martial, with the new signing set to not only support Rasmus Hojlund in central attack, but also play across the front line.

Martial's departure means the No.9 shirt is now vacant heading into the new season and while it looks like the ideal fit for Zirkzee, he admits he could end up taking the No.11 shirt instead.

Asked what shirt number he will be wearing, Zirkzee told YouTube show Supergraande: "That depends a bit on Rasmus Højlund. He’s already there and he’s also a striker. No9 is free, but yeah… He has 11, so I can imagine that he wants no9 now. In that case I’ll take 11. At Bologna I also had 11, so that doesn’t really matter to me."
