What did John Terry say?

On Monday night, the former Chelsea captain tweeted: “@HarryMaguire93 Congratulations mate.

“@England Highest scoring defender. Let’s see if a few of these pundits talk about that.”

The last sentence is in reference to the criticism Maguire has had from pundits such as Roy Keane in recent weeks, who have blasted his form.

Maguire responded by celebrating his goal against Albania last week by putting his fingers in his ears, presumably to imply he wasn’t listening to such comments.

However, the 28-year-old’s celebration only saw him receive further scorn, for what was deemed an overreaction to a goal against inferior opposition.

How many international goals has Harry Maguire scored?

Maguire has now scored seven goals for England, one more than Terry, who is tied second with the late Jack Charlton.

Tony Adams, Gary Cahill, Stuart Pearce and Phil Neal have all netted five for the Three Lions.
