Manchester United travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday for the final game of 2021/22, and it’s a match that still carries real significance for the Red Devils.

A win will ensure United finish sixth and will play in the Europa League next season, although a slip up would leave the door open for West Ham United to leapfrog them and mean the Red Devils could finish seventh and play in the Europa Conference League.

Starting off the Erik ten Hag era on the best possible note could be key for so many reasons, and a win at Selhurst Park would prevent the embarrassment of playing in Europe’s third-tier tournament next term.

The new United manager will also be in attendance on Sunday, with Ten Hag officially set to start the role on Monday.

That means the trip to the capital will be Ralf Rangnick’s final game in charge of United before he steps up to boardroom level to begin his consultancy role.

The clash with the Eagles will also be the last time Nemanja Matic dons a United jersey, while it’s likely to be the same for Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani. Paul Pogba is in the same boat with his contract expiring, although injury will prevent him enjoying a United swansong.

By Sunday, it will have been over two weeks since Rangnick’s men were last in action due to their fixture with Chelsea being rearranged for the FA Cup final. Last time out, United suffered one of their most embarrassing losses of what has been a hugely disappointing season, when they were beaten 4-0 away to Brighton & Hove Albion.

As for Palace, they last played on Thursday night, a game that was more memorable for the opposition’s performance, with Everton coming from two goals down at Goodison Park to win 3-2 and ensure their Premier League survival.

The Eagles sit 13th in the table and could end the season anywhere between 10th and 14th based on Sunday’s result.

Is the game on TV?

Palace vs United is not one of the three games chosen to be shown live on Sky Sports this weekend. Instead, the broadcaster selected the title deciders involving Manchester City and Liverpool, as well as Leeds United’s trip to Brentford.

BT Sport aren’t showing any matches from the final weekend of the Premier League season, meaning it’s not possible to watch United’s game live in the UK.

Highlights will be available after the match via the Sky Sports YouTube channel, and both clubs’ websites. Meanwhile, there’s a bumper 10-game Match of the Day which starts at 10.30pm on Sunday night.

What time is kick-off?

United’s clash, like all 10 matches on Sunday, kicks off at 4pm. That means by around 6pm we should know whether the Red Devils will be playing in the Europa League or Europa Conference League next season.

What’s the latest team news?

United could welcome back four players who missed the humiliating loss to Brighton, with Eric Bailly, Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho all involved in training this week.

Bailly was absent at the Amex with a back issue, while Shaw hasn’t featured since the start of April after undergoing surgery on his leg to remove bolts and screws from a previous operation. As for Rashford and Sancho, both were ill when United took on Brighton.

Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Edinson Cavani are also available after missing recent fixtures through injury.

Meanwhile, Patrick Vieira’s side will be without Nathan Ferguson, James Tomkins, James McArthur and Michael Olise this weekend.
