Intriguing fresh transfer 'interest' emerges for ex-Man Utd star David de Gea

A former Manchester United goalkeeper looks to be a step closer to returning to action amid reported interest.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is attracting interest after months out of the game. The goalkeeper has struggled to find a club since his release from Old Trafford last summer at the end of his contract.

De Gea was once one of the best goalkeepers in the world, but his last year or so at United saw him struggle for consistency, ultimately leading to his release. Still, it was expected that the Spaniard would be snapped up quickly, given he has been available for free, but that has not been the case.

More than six months on, De Gea is still looking for a club and waiting for the right offer to come in. Fortunately for the veteran goalkeeper, there now seems to be interest building again, with ESPN reporting that there is interest from Europe and Saudi Arabia.

Al Shabab are one of the clubs reportedly hoping to land De Gea this month, while there is also reported interest from unnamed clubs in Europe. As for De Gea, he is said to prefer to remain in Europe for the back nine of his career, but he has not ruled out a move to Saudi Arabia, according to the report.

The biggest issue with the goalkeeper is his wage, given he is not likely to take a huge wage cut. Then again, after so long out of the game, De Gea may prioritise landing a club he wants to play for over salary.
