'I'm ready' - Manager liked by INEOS teased managerial return amid fresh Ten Hag scrutiny at Manchester United

Erik ten Hag is being given time at Man Utd but the poor run of results can't continue much longer.

Graham Potter revealed last week that he feels 'ready' to return to management at a time when pressure is increasing on Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

Potter, 49, was one of the candidates linked with a possible switch to Old Trafford in the summer, before the Ineos Group eventually decided to stick with Ten Hag following their strategic review.

Last December it was claimed, Potter would be high on United's shortlist of managerial candidates if they ever decided to part company with Ten Hag. Sir Jim Ratcliffe previously held talks with former Chelsea boss Potter about potentially taking over at French side OGC Nice.

United are adamant they remain behind Ten Hag ahead of a pivotal week in which they face both FC Porto and Aston Villa away from home, with club chiefs well aware it will take time before they reap the rewards of backing the manager in the summer.

However, if results and performances do not show any sign of improvement, then United might need to act quickly while there is still plenty of time to turn their fortunes around and make this season a successful one.

If that happens, Potter would no doubt be a contender to take over at Old Trafford, and last week he admitted he would be ready to return to management if the right opportunity arose.

"I’ve felt ready to return for a little while," he told The Telegraph. "It still has to be the right thing, but I’m excited for it. I’m excited to hear what the opportunities are and I’ll take each one and judge it on its merits.

“It wasn’t so long ago that Eddie Howe left Bournemouth after they had been relegated. He took 18 months out and now he’s at Newcastle doing brilliant things. If you look at Unai Emery, how he was received after leaving Arsenal and look at what he’s doing now. I see it (Chelsea job) as an unbelievable experience that I’ve had. It didn’t go as well as I’d have liked.”
