Ian Wright and Gary Lineker agree on Man Utd star who deserves international call-up

A Manchester United star has been tipped to an international call-up amid impressive recent form.

Ian Wright and Gary Lieneker have been calling for a Manchester United star to be called up for the England national team after impressive recent performances. United have picked up of late, reinstalling themselves into the top four race after a forgettable start to the season.

The return of certain players from injury has helped, but few saw youngster Kobbie Mainoo making such an impact after the knee injury that kept him out early in the season. Mainoo's ability and energy has been instrumental in the Red Devils' uptick in form, and he should be in line for an England call-up ahead of Euro 2024, according to Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

"Kobbie Mainoo has to be in the next England squad," Wright posted on X. "Such maturity in chaotic conditions that we've not seen from a England player in a long time. Impressed every time I watch him."

Match of the Day presenter Lineker replied to the tweet, adding: "Agreed. What a fabulous young player." Though, Mainoo isn't the only player Wright is backing for an England call-up, with a former Red Devil also receiving an endorsement.

"Equally not seeing enough love and flowers for Angel Gomes and what he's consistently doing at Lille in the centre of midfield," Wright continued. "Another top performance yesterday. Call him up and have a look at him." Separately, Wright tweeted: "His growth is great to see. Backed himself as well. An example to a lot of talented players just staying in academies."

Gomes, who was an England under-21s international left United back in 2020, going on to make 80 league appearances for Lille so far. He has thrived under current boss Paulo Fonseca, and it will be interesting to see if he can sneak into the Three Lions squad in March,
