Manchester United are interested in a late deadline day swoop for Leicester City star Youri Tielemans. The Red Devils are looking for midfield options following Christian Eriksen’s injury.

Erik ten Hag’s side are considering a move for the Belgium international if a deadline-day deal for Marcel Sabitzer breaks down. The club are also believed to have ‘tracked’ his progress over the past few years.

Tielemans, 25, is out of contract at the end of this season and Leicester are vulnerable to losing him. They risk him heading out the exit door for free if they don’t cash in on him this winter or can’t agree fresh terms over a new deal.

The former Anderlecht and Monaco man has previously hinted that he will move on for bigger things one day. Speaking last year while away on international duty, he said, as per the Shields Gazette: “[Leaving Leicester] is not out of the question. I feel very good at Leicester, I was welcomed with open arms from day one. I give everything for the club until the last day.

“But of course you have to listen to other opportunities, you have to look at your career, and sometimes you have to make choices. Maybe one will come my way.”

United could see Tielemans as someone who is ready-made to join the first-team squad. He already has bags of Premier League experience so wouldn’t take a while to adapt compared to an overseas player.

It has been a relatively quiet month for the Red Devils on the transfer front. They have brought in goalkeeper Jack Butland and striker Wout Weghorst on loan from Crystal Palace and Burnley respectively, but Eriksen’s injury could now force them to sign someone else.
