What Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko told Matheus Cunha after first Manchester United goal

The Man Utd summer signing scored his first goal as they defeated Brighton in the Premier League at the weekend.

Matheus Cunha admits he felt 'anxious' after he joined Manchester United in the summer transfer window. The Brazilian completed his dream £62.5m move from Wolves back in June and was made to wait for his first competitive goal for the club until this weekend.

Cunha shone in the United attack and opened the scoring as they defeated Brighton 4-2 in the Premier League on Saturday evening. The 26-year-old started brightly and got the reward for his persistence when he fired United ahead with a brilliant finish from the edge of the box.

His teammates mobbed the former Wolves star as he celebrated his maiden goal for the club and went on to play a key role in their third successive win under Ruben Amorim. Cunha kept his place in the starting line up after his immense contribution against Liverpool a week ago and was relieved to finally net his first competitive goal in a United shirt.

Cunha scores first United goal in Brighton win

Matheus Cunha fired an effort into the side-netting within the open exchanges of the Brighton win and drew a smart stop from Bart Verbruggen before he finally found the back of the net. Cunha curled an excellent effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the box and is delighted to have finally got off the mark following his big-money move.

"It is hard to say something now," he told BBC Match of the Day. "I have worked so hard for this. This is the club and this performance needs to be common and normal. I feel so good to be part of this. My first goal here at Old Trafford, I dreamed a lot of this but of course the win is much more important.

"It is so hard to say something. I joked with Bryan [Mbeumo] and [Benjamin] Sesko, I told them I need to have this feeling [scoring], I felt so anxious to be a part of this and when I scored they said 'look you can enjoy it now.' All the day the support for my team-mates, I feel so good to be part of this."

When asked what his message was for the fans after his first goal, Cunha added: "I am one of them. This is the club I grew up watching and to be here is a mix of sensations. To help them, it is my dream come true."
