This was the Frenchman’s second spell at the club after leaving for Juventus in 2012 and then sensationally returning in 2016 for a sum of £89m.

Pogba played a key role in the Red Devils’ 2017 League Cup victory and scored the decisive goal in the 2-0 win over Ajax in the Europa League final the same year.

Pogba has displayed his quality at times, but sadly may be remembered by his public altercations with former United boss Jose Mourinho.

The last season, Pogba’s year was frustratingly hampered by injuries which saw him sidelined for many months.

Now aged 29, Pogba is a World Cup winner, but the player struggled to find the scintillating form he provides consistently for the national side for United.

The midfielder’s supreme talent is unquestionable, and it seems likely that he will return to Juventus to hopefully rejuvenate his club career.

How are Manchester United supporters reacting?

@UtdDistrict spoke fondly of Pogba, writing: “From a kid in the academy to a trophy winner, we want to thank Paul Pogba for his 233 appearances for #mufc and wish him luck in his future career.”

Another fan account @weareunited_18 wrote in support, tweeting: “Thank You for everything @paulpogba all best in the future #MUFC ❤Once a RED always a RED.”

@JonnyFX1 wrote: “Was my favourite player at the club! It’s a sad ending but I’m happy for him to get away from the disgusting abuse! Thank you for your huge influence in delivering our last trophy when you was POTT. Take care Paul 💙 #MUFC.”

However, not all fans were showing gratitude to Pogba’s time at the club.

@WTPhaIndia tweeted: “Why would anyone think #SAF did not know better than to let #Pogba go? Clearly, SAF knew, that his footballing talent is NOT going to define his career. He is a flat-line player. He ‘maintains’ the standard of any team, not raise it. #PoGoBack #MUFC.”

@JoeBusbyBabes added: “It’s a good thing that @paulpogba is leaving #MUFC, anyone who says different is deluded. It didn’t really work out.”

Finally, @GSPMUFC wrote: “I am really happy that Paul Pogba left! Tbh he never gave his full commitment at the club! #MUFC.”
