'Here we go! - Fabrizio Romano confirms Manchester United will complete fourth summer signing tomorrow
Man Utd are set to announce their fourth signing of the summer transfer window.
Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko in the summer transfer window.
It is understood United will pay an initial €76.5million (£66.4m) fee for the Slovenian striker with a further €8.5m (£7.4m) in add-ons. Sesko has been granted permission to travel to Manchester for his medical and could be confirmed as the club's fourth summer signing as early as Friday.
Ruben Amorim prioritised an attacking overhaul of his squad in the summer transfer window and has been backed with roughly £200m to sign Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Sesko also had an offer to join Newcastle this summer but the 22-year-old turned down the chance to play in the Champions League next season because he wanted to be part of the United project.
Taking to social media on Thursday afternoon, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano wrote: "BREAKING: Benjamin Šeško to Manchester United, here we go! Agreement club to club reached with RB Leipzig for €76.5m plus €8.5m add-ons. Šeško agreed terms until 2030. Šeško made clear on Tuesday that he wanted #MUFC, deal now reality. New striker for Amorim."
He later followed it up with a post that added: "Benjamin Šeško will fly to Manchester already tonight together with his agent, plan just confirmed. MUFC want Šeško to complete medical tests and sign on Friday."
Sesko’s move will be subject to a visa and Premier League registration, and it is unclear whether he will feature when they face Fiorentina in their final pre-season fixture on Saturday lunchtime. The Slovenian striker should be part of the squad to face Arsenal on the opening day of the Premier League next week, though.
The proposed transfer could spell the end for Rasmus Hojlund at Old Trafford, despite the fact he is adamant he wants to fight for his future at the club. United want to get rid of Hojlund and they are prepared to sell him for just £30m this summer if an appropriate offer comes in. The Danish international might realise it is in his best interest to go once a replacement arrives, with no guarantee of regular playing time next season.
