Harry Maguire is reportedly ‘open’ to joining West Ham United after the Hammers lodged a joint £60m bid for the Manchester United defender, and team-mate Scott McTominay, on Monday.

Erik ten Hag is open to letting both players depart this summer as he looks to freshen his squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, but it’s been reported by Fabrizio Romano that the offer for McTominay has been turned down by the Red Devils. The Daily Mail’s Chris Wheeler tweeted to say West Ham are ‘getting closer’ to the £80m that United would accept for Maguire and McTominay.

Meanwhile, the Evening Standard claim the former is willing to leave Old Trafford and is ‘excited by the prospect’ of moving to the London Stadium and playing under David Moyes. Maguire is also aware that his place in the England squad is under threat if he doesn’t play regular football this season, something that looks unlikely at United.

The 30-year-old, who joined from Leicester City for a record £80m in 2019, had the captaincy stripped over the summer and made another costly error in Sunday’s draw against Athletic Bilbao.

Maguire’s departure, if agreed, could prove significant for Ten Hag. The United boss has brought in Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund already this summer, but needs to sell before he can buy again, with Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat identified as the next target for the club.

Romano tweeted on Tuesday morning claiming that United have scheduled a ‘new round of talks’ for Maguire, McTominay, as well as Fred and Donny van de Beek. There is interest from Real Sociedad in the latter, while Fred was not included in the club’s pre-season tour to America and played no part in the friendly double header over the weekend.
