Getafe chief outlines 'crazy' Mason Greenwood transfer stance amid Man Utd U-turn

Sir Jim Ratcliffe opened the door to Mason Greenwood's Manchester United return earlier this week.

Getafe president Angel Torres insists Mason Greenwood is 'crazy' about the prospect of staying with them for another year amid growing uncertainty over the forward's future.

Greenwood joined Getafe on loan in August after agreeing to part ways with United, following an internal investigation into his conduct. The 22-year-old's exit was expected to be made permanent this summer and there has been interest in him from other La Liga sides including Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Earlier this week, Sir Jim Ratcliffe appeared to suggest there could be a way back for Greenwood at United, insisting the club will 'judge fairly and take into consideration what the values of the club are.' It leaves the forward's future up in the air going into summer but Torres believes another season at Getafe could be on the cards.

“There was a lot of movement, we had to study it,” he told Estadio Deportivo of Getafe’s move for Greenwood last summer. “We found out what had happened. He’s doing well, he’s calm. He’s very comfortable. He’s crazy about staying another year.

“It’s a matter that they [United] have to decide. There is new ownership. They have to say it. In Spain he has a market but they have money. Barça’s way of playing is going well but it depends on Manchester United. If it’s true, he’ll tell me.”

Greenwood has netted five goals since making the move to Getafe and impressed a number of La Liga sides, who could make a permanent offer come summer. Given he is an academy graduate, any money brought in would represent pure profit in terms of profitability and sustainability rules at a time when balancing the books is more important than ever.

United are planning for a busy summer with a number of players set to be moved on in order to raise funds. In such a scenario, Greenwood would likely be one of several who could bring in a decent fee, alongside the likes of Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
