Manchester United and Liverpool greats took part in a charity game to raise funds for the Manchester United Foundation.

It was the visitors who won 3-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday, although the Red Devils will be hoping to overturn that deficit in the second meeting in September.

The game raised over £1.3 million, and 48,777 fans were in attendance to see the likes of Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher on show, with both players captaining their respective sides and enjoying a bit of friendly banter with the rival supporters.

The goals were all scored in the second half, with Luis Garcia getting the ball rolling when he rounded Raimond van der Gouw and knocked the ball into an empty net.

Minutes later, Dimitar Berbatov was tripped in the box and awarded a penalty. The Bulgarian then strode forward and casually converted from the spot.

But Liverpool took control in the latter stages, with Mark Gonzalez netting twice, the first via a sumptuous free-kick, before Garica set him up for a third in injury-time.

For United, Berbatov impressed with some exquisite touches and turns, while Antonio Valencia, Jaap Stam and Patrice Evra looked sharp.
