Manchester United will be without Andre Onana for up to a month due to the African Cup of Nations.

Manchester United star Andre Onana could miss as many as four Premier League fixtures due to the African Cup of Nations.

United’s summer signing returned to the Cameroon setup recently after initially retiring from international football at the age of 26. Onana had fallen out with his manager Rigobert Song, but they have since made up, and Onana has returned to international duty, helping his nation to qualification for the upcoming African Cup of Nations, which takes place across January and February.

While the Red Devils will be pleased for Onana on a personal level, they will be disappointed that they will now have to make do without their starting keeper for a number of games.

The African Cup of Nations will take place in the Ivory Coast betwee January 13 and February 11, and the duration that Onana will be away will depend on how Cameroon do in the competition, though they will be one of the favourites.

If Onana is away until the final of the competition, he could miss as many as six games, including four Premier League games and up to two FA Cup fixtures. He could also miss the latter stages of the Carabao Cup if United put together another run in that competition.

The round dates for the African Cup of Nations have not been released just yet, with the draw yet to take place, but the group stage usually takes 11 days from the start of the competitions, and so they should conclude on or around January 24, while the Round of 16 is likely to take place across January 27, 28 and 29. The quarter-finals are likely to take place across February 2nd and 3rd, with the semi-finals on February 7 and 8, while we already know the final will take place on February 1, one day after the third-place playoff.
