A former Manchester United star has been speaking about Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s proposed partial takeover at Old Trafford.

Former Manchester United star Mikael Silvestre has been speaking about the takeover situation at his former club. The takeover situation at Old Trafford continues to rumble on, and there was a fresh twist over the weekend.

Sheikh Jassim walked away from a possible full takeover, leaving only Jim Ratcliffe in the process, and even his bid seems to have changed significantly. Reports now claim Ratcliffe is eyeing a 25% takeover, valued at £1.3billion, with the hope of completing a full takeover at a later date, while he is also said to want full footballing control for his £1.3billion investment.

Still, fans are not altogether convinced, with many wanting the Glazers out for good, something that would not happen any time soon should Ratcliffe’s 25% offer be accepted and approved. Though, according to former United star Silvestre, the move may still be a positive one, but it’s impossible to tell whether it will be just yet.

“It’s one step, but I don’t know in which direction,” Silvestre told GGRecon. “Time will tell if it’s a positive step for the club. It’s impossible to judge at the moment because we don’t know what the terms are and whether it’s even going to happen or not, so it’s too premature to comment on.

“What we do know about Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS is that they’re not new in sport. They’ve got a certain level of experience, expertise and have had a few years in control of OGC Nice. Football’s a difficult environment and you can’t just come along with your science and data because that’s not going to be enough to make you successful at running a football club. We need to be patient at the moment and see how things pan out.”
