Manchester United are set to appoint their next permanent manager with Erik ten Hag believed to be their chosen candidate.
The Dutchman, who is currently in charge of Ajax, has ‘verbally agreed’ to join the Red Devils next season, as per The Athletic.
Control of player recruitment at Old Trafford will be key if the club want to bring the glory days back to its fans, with the Sun claiming he ‘ripped the United set-up apart’.
The transfer window, especially for the Red Devils, leads to multiple names being linked to the club, but what about the current crop of players?
United’s squad have been criticised by fans and pundits for their poor performances this season, leading to them sitting seventh in the Premier League and going a fifth campaign without silverware.
However, amongst the group there are some quality players who can contribute to the future of the club.
With that being said, let’s take a look at five current Red Devils’ players who are guaranteed a place in their team next season.
1. David De Gea
Arguably the obvious choice on this list, David De Gea has saved United from losing or drawing games more times than he would’ve wished. The experienced shot-stopper has played every league game this campaign and is too good to be taken out of the team next year. Photo: Getty Images
2. Raphael Varane
The experienced defender has had to deal with several injuries this season preventing him from showing his full worth. Nevertheless, he is a solid performer when fit and can help contribute significantly to better defensive displays next year, even if that means sacrificing Harry Maguire. Photo: Getty Images
3. Bruno Fernandes
A key player for the club since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon in 2020, Bruno Fernandes has featured in 39 games for United this campaign - the join-most - and recently was rewarded with a new contract. Photo: Getty Images
4. Jadon Sancho
Despite a slow start to his Red Devils career, Jadon Sancho has come into his own the last few weeks and shown why he can be a threat, both in front of goal and creating chances for his teammates. His hunger down either wing is exactly what United need if they want to succeed in the future. Photo: Getty Images
