Manchester United could be tempted to move for Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa over Inter Milan target Andre Onana if the Portuguese side offer a sweet deal.

Porto could let Costa leave for a bargain price as the club, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, looks to raise just under £45 million before June 30 when their 2022/23 financial records must be submitted.

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has warned the club that amove for Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins may not be the right calibre for the club.

United are still heavily linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur talisman but reports suggest an ever-stubborn Daniel Levy demanding upwards of £100 million could prove too big an impasse.

The Athletic reported that Erik ten Hag was looking at Villa star Ollie Watkins, who shone under Unai Emery last term, as a replacement but Berbatov had a word of warning for the manager.

He told Betfred: “Any player that scored 15 goals in a Premier League season is going to make other clubs take notice. However, I want Manchester United to sign a striker with a more proven track record at the highest level, somebody like Harry Kane that scores around 25 goals every season.

“You need a player with this kind of track record because when the big games come, you know you have a striker that can score goals.

“If you can’t sign a player that has the full package, then of course you’re going to look at other players, but you should only look to sign a player that’s capable of playing in Erik ten Hag’s system because Manchester United need to challenge for the Premier League title next season and do much better in the Champions League than they did last time.”
