Paul Pogba is free to play professional football once again after his 18-month ban officially came to an end on Tuesday. The 31-year-old was initially given a four-year suspension last February after testing positive for the banned substance DHEA, but the punishment was reduced after a successful appeal.
The former Manchester United academy graduate has always pleaded his innocence in the case and is was free to return to professional football from 11 March 2025. Pogba has not played since his final appearance for Juventus on 3 September 2023 and was later released by the Serie A club.

United are one of those sides who could hypothetically give Pogba another chance, though it would be a huge surprise if that were to happen before the end of the season.
Fabrizio Romano reveals Manchester United stance on signing Paul Pogba
Manchester United have already signed Paul Pogba twice in his career, but it is highly unlikely to be a case of third time lucky for the World Cup winner. It is true United have space in their first-team squad to register Pogba between now and the end of the season, but their tight financial situation, coupled with a desire to sign younger players make it a very unlikely deal to happen.
In his latest transfer newsletter, Fabrizio Romano provided a brief update on United's linked with Pogba and shot down any suggestion of an imminent return to Old Trafford. "At the moment, I’m not aware of anything concrete on this story. Zero," he said in his GIVEMESPORT newsletter.
Although he is able to sign for a new club, it is understood Pogba is in no rush to jump at the first opportunities that come his way, and the midfielder is prepared to wait until the summer transfer window before he makes his decision.

Hide AdRuben Amorim stance on free agent signings
Another key factor in a possible move for Paul Pogba is that Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has not been considering any free agent siginings.
Speaking ahead of the clash with Everton last month, Amorim was quizzed on the possibility of a free agent signing and whether United had considered any amid the lack of senior options. "No, no. It’s not an idea we have. We have young players and we’re working with them and we have to really focus on that as a club. When you have these moments of a lot of injuries you should use young players if not you don’t have space for them to improve and show themselves. We need to focus in future on youth because of the history of our club and the reality of our situation."
