Man Utd have prioritised the addition of a striker in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United have pushed ahead with their summer transfer plans, but they know their business will be dictated by whether or not they manage to win the Europa League. Even though they will record their lowest ever finish of the Premier League era, United could yet qualify for the Champions League next season.

If they manage to do so, Ruben Amorim's side will not only become a more attractive proposition for any potential transfer target but they will also have a lot more money to invest in their squad. As things stand, United have budgeted for the new campaign without any European football and could be handed the welcome boost of the riches that accompany Champions League football.

Amorim has prioritised the addition of both a striker and an attacking midfielder this summer, with Liam Delap and Matheus Cunha their preferred targets in either role. Those plans could be altered if they win the Europa League.

United 'remain keen' on Viktor Gyokeres

Manchester United have targeted several different striker ahead of the summer transfer window, with Viktor Gyokeres one of those players of interest. The Sporting star has a staggering 52 goals in 48 appearances this season and enjoyed his time under Ruben Amorim earlier in the campaign.

The 26-year-old even has seven goals across his last two league appearances after he followed up a hat-trick against Moreirense with a four-goal haul in a comfortable win over Boavista. Gyokeres is expected to attract plenty of interest this summer and Fabrizio Romano claims United are still in with a chance of signing him, if they can boost their budget.

Writing in his latest GIVEMESPORT newsletter, Romano provided an update on United interest in the Sporting striker: "Nothing is decided so far," he said. "Man United but also Arsenal remain keen. For Man United, the Financial Fair Play budget will be crucial to understand how much they can spend on a striker."

United will need to raise revenue

In order to complete a deal for Viktor Gyokeres, Manchester United are likely to require Champions League qualification, regardless of the financial benefit it brings. The Swede will be inundated with offers this summer and is unlikely to move to a club that can't offer him the chance to play at the very highest level.

If they don't qualify for the Champions League then there will be even more importance placed on player sales. United could theoretically fund moves for Liam Delap and Matheus Cunha if they sell Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony, while the club are also open to the sale of Casemiro.

An academy graduate like Alejandro Garnacho or Kobbie Mainoo could be sold for a huge profit from a financial perspective, though the club's priority is to keep the homegrown duo at the club. Other academy products such as Toby Collyer and Dan Gore could be sold to raise quick funds.
