Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United interested in 'fantastic' Premier League star who can make 'instant impact'

Man Utd will look to add to their squad with Premier League experience in the summer transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano is the latest to report on Manchester United’s interest in Bryan Mbeumo ahead of the summer transfer window. Ruben Amorim wants to overhaul the attacking options at his disposal and has a preference to sign players who are already proven in the Premier League.

It is understood United are close to a deal that will see Matheus Cunha join the club from Wolves, while Manchester World revealed earlier this week that they also have an interest in Brentford ace Mbeumo. The 25-year-old netted 20 goals and notched seven assists across the English top-flight this past season.

United are expected to face stiff competition from Newcastle for his signature, with Brentford 'open to offers' for the forward as he enters the final year of his contract with the club. United might need to sell before they can finance a move for Mbeumo, but he is a player firmly on their radar for the months ahead.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Bryan Mbuemo interest

In an update on his official YouTube channel, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed Manchester United hold an interest in Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo ahead of the summer transfer window. “I can also confirm that Man United appreciate Bryan Mbeumo at Brentford, a player who did fantastic with 20 goals this season in the Premier League," he told viewers.

“Top player, really big mentality, also fits what they want to do in the strategy at May United, so players who can be for the future, but also ready to make an instant impact to help Ruben Amorim for the new season.

“Cunha is like that: Premier League-proven, European experience, international player with Brazil, who knows how to handle pressure and knows how to add numbers, assists and goals. So that's going to be really important and then there is Bryan Mbeumo, because he is a player they appreciate. As I told you here on the channel, Man United want to add one more player behind the striker.”

Ruben Amorim offers transfer update

Ruben Amorim has hinted player sales will be the priority for Manchester United in the summer transfer window as they look to trim their squad and cut costs. United will not play any European football next season after they finished 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.

"We always prepare two plans, one with Champions League one without Champions League. Without Champions League, we don't need a big squad, we can control the squad in a better way," he told reporters at a press conference on Tuesday.

"Then we have a plan that is to bring some new players, of course, but our big plan is to improve the team that we have, is to improve our academy, that is the future, is not going to change so much because we have the FFP rules, we are not allowed to do much this summer. It's important to stick together. We are going to struggle, it is not going to be everything right away but I see the team improving and that is the most important thing."
