Manchester United and Manchester City progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup over the weekend and could face a relatively kind draw in the next round.

At least seven of the 16 teams in the fifth round won’t be Premier League sides, while clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle United have already been dumped out of the cup.

United progressed to the next stage on Saturday night courtesy of a 3-1 win over Reading, with Casemiro (2) and Fred on the scoreseheet for Erik ten Hag’s side. As for City, a 1-0 win over Arsenal ensured their name is in the hat for the fifth round. It was a relatively dull affair between the Premier League’s top two sides on Friday, with Nathan Ake’s goal one of just five shots on targets throughout the game.

Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United, Leiceter City and Southampton made it through the fourth round on Saturday and are potential opponents for the Manchester duo.

The cup draw will take place on Monday 30 January at 7pm.

When will the fifth round be played?

The fifth-round games will be played in midweek on the week commencing 27 Februray, probably on Tuesday 28 February or Wednesday 1 March.
