Ex-Man Utd goalkeeper 'declined' Premier League move as Sunderland chief details Amad Diallo loan attempt

Your round-up of the latest Manchester United transfer headlines in the aftermath of the January transfer window.

Manchester United kicked off February in dramatic fashion on Thursday evening, Kobbie Mainoo netting a 97th-minute winner to beat Wolves 3-2. Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay were also on the scoresheet for Erik ten Hag's side at Molineux.

A chaotic evening on the pitch was in contrast to a quiet deadline day in terms of signings, with Isak Hansen-Aaroen's move to Werder Bremen the only notable development. But that doesn't mean there weren't attempts to do business and ManchesterWorld has rounded up some of the latest headlines from Old Trafford.

De Gea 'declined' move

David de Gea remains without a club after rejecting a last-minute move to Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest. The Athletic reports of serious interest from Nuno Espirito's side, who were desperate to bring a new goalkeeper through the door.

De Gea has been a free agent since leaving United at the start of last summer, following the expiry of his contract. The Spaniard's future was the subject of speculation for months but Ten Hag eventually decided he wanted his own goalkeeper, spending £47.2million on Andre Onana.

It is believed De Gea still wants to hold out for a top European club and has rejected offers from the Saudi Pro League as well. Forest eventually signed Matz Sels from Strasbourg for an initial £5.1m.

Sunderland pushed for Amad

Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman insists the club pushed for Amad Diallo for as ‘long as we possibly could'. The Black Cats were heavily linked with a move for the winger, who enjoyed an excellent spell at the Stadium of Light last season.

Amad's future was subject to speculation all month with links to Championship clubs aplenty. But the 21-year-old was quick to rubbish a lot of the reports on social media and is thought to have spoken with Ten Hag about his role at United.

“Amad would have been one of those three or four targets [that we were working on] but there are factors we have no control over,” Speakman said. “It ran its course that he wasn't available. He's not turned up anywhere else. We stayed in that for as long as we possibly could.”
