Recently-departed Manchester United coach Rene Hake is in line for a swift return to management after reportedly entering talks with Championship side West Brom over their managerial vacancy.
The Baggies have been without a manager since Carlos Corberan joined Valencia on December 24. Hake arrived in Manchester back in July when he was appointed as an assistant manager by Erik ten Hag. Ruud van Nistelrooy, who took interim charge of the senior side after Ten Hag was sacked, joined alongside Hake.

Now is a good time to refresh the coaching team as we look to build on the achievements of the past two years and push to the next level.”
Hake in line for Baggies job
Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano has reported Hake has engaged in talks with West Brom and that he is one of the three top candidates for the role. The Hawthorns outfit sit sixth in the Championship table after 26 games and are aiming to finish in the play-offs for the second season in a row.
Hake's fellow former assistant has already found himself back in the dugout, with Van Nistelrooy appointed at Premier League strugglers Leicester City in November. He replaced Steve Cooper and is under contract at the Foxes until June 2027. After his appointment, the ex-Red Devils striker said: "I'm proud, I'm excited. Everybody that I speak to about Leicester City is enthusiastic. They have great stories about the quality of the people working at the club, the supporters and, of course, the recent history of the club is impressive. I'm excited to start and to get to know everyone and give everything I can for the football club."
The Foxes have won one of the seven games since Van Nistelrooy took charge, drawing once and losing the other five. They sit 19th in the table after 20 games, two points off safety.

Addressing his departure from Old Trafford last month, Hake said his only regret was that his spell at the club was so short. He said last month: “It has been a wonderful experience serving as assistant manager of Manchester United and, while it has ended sooner than I would have liked, I am leaving with nothing but good feelings about this great football club and its brilliant fans.
“I would like to thank Erik ten Hag for giving me the opportunity, and all the players and staff for the strong connection and co-operation during this period. We tried so hard to get us on the right track this season, and we felt we could get there – but that’s football. Now it’s time for me to rest and recharge before the next challenge, while wishing everyone at Manchester United all the success for the future.”
He added: "I don't hold any grudges whatsoever. I had great interactions with the players, the staff, and everyone involved. I personally made it a point to say farewell to all, to ensure a positive ending."
