Manchester United are back in action on Sunday when they face Everton.

The Red Devils avoided a surprise defeat in the Europa League on Thursday night by coming from behind to beat Omonia Nicosia, but last time out in the Premier League they were thrashed by rivals Manchester City.

The pressure is on for Erik ten Hag’s men to pick up form after suffering two heavy away defeats already this season, and they will want to avoid another defeat on the road this weekend.

United face an Everton side in good form on Sunday, and ahead of the trip to Goodison Park, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire have been ruled out.

Donny van de Beek is also unavailable, while Raphael Varane is hoping to be fully fit in time.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, United boss Ten Hag said: “Raphael Varane makes progress, and I hope he’s available, but I think it will be close.

“From the other players, Harry Maguire [is] not [available] and then it’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Donny van de Beek, both not [fit].”

As far as Everton are concerned, Frank Lampard has defensive injury concerns, with Ben Godfrey, Nathan Patterson, Mason Holgate and Yerry Mina all out, as is Andros Townsend.

However, forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin has returned to fitness after recent injury issues.

“Yes, he’s in contention,” Lampard said of his forward. “We’ll have to see how match-fit he is but in terms of the injury, he’s better.

“It’s a really good boost. Do I have to say that? He’s a really good player for us, he was pivotal in us staying in the league last year and at the moment we want to get him fit and playing regularly.”

Speaking about Holgate and Mina, Lampard added: “They’re training with us, which is great.

“Yerry came in during the last couple of days and Mason came in today for part of training, they’re both working hard to get there.

“This weekend probably comes too early for both of them, definitely for Mason, but we hope for a good week of training next week to bring them into contention from then on.”
