Erik ten Hag has said he is expecting Luke Shaw and Jadon Sancho to be back for Manchester United’s trip to Liverpool this weekend.

The Red Devils head to Anfield 10 points clear of their old foes and are hoping to have a relatively injury-free squad for the clash, with only Christian Eriksen, Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial definitely ruled out.

Shaw and Sancho both missed the midweek FA Cup win over West Ham United due to injury and illness, but Ten Hag confirmed in his pre-match press conference that the pair are likely to be back for Sunday’s game.

“I think we’ll have players back. I’m not sure if you’ve seen but yesterday Luke Shaw was not available. We expect him back,” said the Dutchman on Thursday. “Sancho was ill. We’ll have to wait for how that develops but yeah, I think [he will be back] as well.”

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp confirmed in his pre-match press conference that three players are set to miss out for Liverpool.

“A lot of things can happen overnight but yesterday evening they were all fine, apart from the players who are out, like Thiago and Luis Diaz,” he said. “Joe [Gomez] is closer but not close enough.”

Calvin Ramsay is also out for Liverpool, while Naby Keita and Arthur Melo are doubts for Sunday, although Klopp didn’t mention the trio. Ibrahima Konate and Darwin Nunez returned in midweek for Liverpool’s win over Wolverhampton Wanderers and should be available for the clash at Anfield.
