Erik ten Hag has denied reports that Aaron Wan-Bissaka does not have a future at Manchester United.

The defender, who started for the first time this season on Wednesday and set up Christian Eriksen’s opening goal in a 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Burnley, has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the January window. Wan-Bissaka has struggled with fitness issues this term which have limited his minutes, and led to several reports he could be on his way out of the club.

West Ham United, Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers are among the clubs supposedly keen on signing the right-back either on loan or permanently, with Fabrizio Romano claiming this week that United are ‘trying to find a solution’ for Wan-Bissaka, while talkSPORT reported he could be ‘surplus to requirements’ soon.

However, speaking after the victory over Burnley, Ten Hag denied the media speculation surrounding the 25-year-old. “He has a future,” the United boss insisted. “He had some good years at Man United, but from the start of this season he had a lot of illnesses and injuries.

“From the restart [of the season] on he’s fit and could train with the team, and you could see him progressing and his performance levels getting better. I am really happy with his performance today and especially the way he gave an assist, his movement in that moment, the timing and then a great pass from Bruno [Fernandes]. That is good and I am happy with his performance.”

With Diogo Dalot injured at present, Wan-Bissaka could retain his place for the upcoming Premier League matches against Nottingham Forest (27 December), Wolves (31 December) and Bournemouth (3 January).
