Manchester United will have just three centre-back options at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Erik ten Hag has confirmed Jonny Evans will miss Saturday's Premier League game against Luton Town.

The Manchester United defender started the midweek loss to Copenhagen but was replaced after just 16 minutes due to injury. It was hoped the Northern Irish international would be back in time for Saturday's game at Old Trafford, but Ten Hag confirmed in Friday's press conference that he has not recovered.

"We don't have a full assessment done - we haven't completed it so don't have the full details, but for tomorrow he is out," Ten Hag said ahead of the Luton game.

Asked whether Evans would be back for Northern Ireland's upcoming games against Finland and Denmark over the international break, the United boss replied: "I can't say because we haven't finished the full assessment."

With Evans out, United will have to choose between Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane at the heart of defence.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag came out in support of Marcus Rashford in the week he was sent off against Copenhagen, and a seven days after he branded his decision to attend a nightclub hours after United's Manchester derby loss as 'unacceptable'

Despite the player's poor form, Ten Hag said he backs him to find his scoring form once again. "I think he is not happy, we are not happy. We have expectations; he has high expectations for himself and in this moment he is not in his best form," said the United boss.

"I know he will be back and I know when the team is playing better he well play better and he will go and score goals - I am confident of that. Also, this season he will improve and we will score goals. He is totally in the team and he is totally aware of everything and I think he will back on track."
