‘Dr Rashford MBE’ personalised shirt to be added to Manchester United museum

Marcus Rashford is set to have a unique artefact in the Manchester United museum, a signed club shirt.

That may not sound particularly special in itself, but this personalised jersey is testament to the 23-year-old’s outstanding charity work.

The signed shirt is adorned with the name ‘Dr Rashford MBE’ after Rashford became the youngest recipient of an honorary degree from the University of Manchester on Thursday.

The England international was presented with the degree in recognition of his outstanding charity work, which includes twice forcing the government into a u-turn on providing free school meals for children and working in partnership with FareShare UK.

The new addition to the museum was tweeted by club employee Charlie Brooks on Friday, although no details were included of where it will be displayed.

Upon Rashford receiving the degree, Collette Roche, the club’s chief operating officer said: “Marcus is an exceptional footballer and an exceptional person.

“He is a young man who embodies everything which this club stands for – he is humble, he is passionate and he is driven to succeed in everything he does.

“Those qualities have shone through in his work to champion the needs of young people, to tackle food poverty and to deliver real change, which has helped thousands of families across the country when they needed it most.

“We are all so proud of you Marcus and it is wonderful for us all to be with you and your family this evening to see your efforts recognised.”

Rashford is yet to play for United or England this season due to a shoulder problem which required surgery before the beginning of the new campaign.

However, with the forward back in full-contact training, his return to the side is expected soon, potentially after the current international break.
