Anthony Martial has been ‘offered’ the biggest contract AEK Athens have ever proposed following his exit from Manchester United, as per a report by The Sun. The Greek side are keen on signing the attacker on a free transfer to bolster their attacking department.

The player departed Old Trafford at the end of last season after the Red Devils decided against extending his stay. He officially became a free agent in late June and has since been weighing up his options in the game. United opted not to keep hold of the 28-year-old and his exit freed up space and funds in their ranks to pave the way for their arrivals in the last transfer window. He still hasn’t found a new home though and the clock is ticking with the new campaign now underway in many countries.

After his departure was announced, Martial took to social media to post on Instagram: “Dear Manchester United fans, It’s with great emotion that I write to you today to say goodbye. After nine incredible years at the club, the time has come for me to turn a new page in my career.

“Since I arrived in 2015, I have had the immense honour of wearing this shirt and playing in front of you, the best supporters in the world! You have been an unwavering support, through the good times and the difficult. Your passion and loyalty have been a constant source of motivation for me. I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you've done for me. Your songs, your encouragement and your love for the club are memories that will remain engraved in my heart forever.  “I would also like to express my gratitude to all my team-mates, technical staff and all the members of the club I have met during my 9 years here. I am proud to have been able to share these experiences with you. Manchester United will always be in my heart. This club has left its mark on my career and offered me an incredible opportunity to play in front of you. I'm leaving to take on new challenges, I'll always be a Red Devil and I'll continue to follow the club's results with passion. Thank you again for everything, and see you soon. With all my affection, Anthony Martial.”

United signed Martial as a youngster from AS Monaco back in 2015. He went on to make 317 appearances in all competitions and scored 90 goals, two of which came last term. The forward was also loaned out to Sevilla a couple of years ago. AEK Athens could see him as a possible big name addition as they look to win the title again. They finished 2nd in the table in the last campaign.

The Greek giants have won the league on 13 occasions in the past with the most recent coming in 2023. They are currently the home to former Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela following his free transfer move in July.
