Manchester United will move up to second place in the Premier League table on Wednesday with a win over Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils continued their impressive winning streak at the weekend when they beat Manchester City 2-1 thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford. The latter finished that game playing as a central striker and may have to operate in the same role on Wednesday if Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst are deemed not ready to start.

The latter has trained this week following the completion of his loan move from Burnley, with Erik ten Hag saying he would have to ‘think about that’ when asked about the potential of Weghorst starting on Wednesday. As for Martial, he has struggled with a knock in the last week and had to be replaced at half-time in the win over City.

“I hoped to avoid that he was getting injured but he was complaining,” Ten Hag said on Saturday, in reference to Martial’s injury. “That’s why he also didn’t train in the week and was a question mark [for the derby]. But I needed to re-evaluate at half-time as you saw he was not capable to go 100 percent and this is what you need. And also to avoid him getting injured so we took him off, but it also had a negative impact on our game after half-time.”

There’s also a question mark surrounding the fitness of Diogo Dalot after he missed the derby win on Saturday through injury. Should he miss out again then Aaron Wan-Bissaka is expected to start against his old side.

Elsewhere, Jack Butland is ineligible for the match against his parent side, while Donny van de Beek is out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury. Axel Tuanzebe and Jadon Sancho are not fit enough for the trip to Selhurst Park.

As for Palace, Nathan Ferguson and James McArthur are ruled out through long-term injuries, while Joachim Anderson is a doubt for the game after he was replaced in Sunday’s loss to Chelsea.

Patrick Vieira confirmed after the game that the Dane was suffering from a calf problem, and said ahead of Wednesday’s encounter that he is expecting a tough night against the Red Devils.

“It’s a different United [to last season]. What will be important for us is to play like we did [against Chelsea], with a lot of intensity and with a lot of discipline,” said the former Arsenal captain. “At home, in front of our fans, if we manage to play the kind of game we played [against Chelsea], we will have more chance of winning the game.”

Doubtful: Andersen (Palace); Dalot, Martial, Weghorst (United)

Ruled out: Ferguson, McArthur (Palace); Butland, Tuanzebe, Van de Beek, Sancho (United)
