Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly expected to remain at Manchester United this summer despite a flurry of speculation surrounding his future at Old Trafford in recent days.

The Portuguese icon only returned to the Red Devils last year, and went on to score 24 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions at club level in 2021/22.

Despite his individual success, however, there has been mounting talk over the potential for the 37-year-old to make a shock exit this summer.

The Athletic reported over the weekend that Ronaldo had been discussed during a meeting between his agent, Jorge Mendes, and Chelsea’s new owner Todd Boehly.

An update from the BBC, however, suggested that United saw “nothing untoward” in the talks, and are adamant that the forward is not for sale.

Ronaldo is expected to play an integral role Erik ten Hag’s plans at Old Trafford next season.

The Daily Star even go as far as to suggest that the veteran attacker could be offered the captain’s armband by the incoming Dutchman, who is eager to keep him in Manchester.

The newspaper’s report on Ronaldo’s future also claims that David Beckham has explored the prospect of luring the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to Inter Miami in recent weeks in an attempt to boost the fledgling MLS franchise’s international profile and on-field performances.

Again, the enquiry has been disregarded as a non-starter due to United’s determination to hang on to their talisman this summer.

Ronaldo’s current contract at Old Trafford is set to run until next summer, with no indication at this early stage as to what his plans are after it expires.
