United had a season to forget last term finishing sixth in the Premier League with 58 points - their lowest recorded in the competition.

To add to this, they failed to win any silverware for a fifth consecutive season with their last taste of a trophy coming under Jose Mourinho in 2017.

However, the club will be hoping this will come to an end under Ten Hag, who guided Ajax to two consecutive Eredivisie titles, a Dutch Cup and Johan Cruyff Shield before joining the Red Devils from Ajax.

Ronaldo re-joined United on an initial two-year deal in 2021, with an option for a further year and is the only Red Devils star to be nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award.

The Portuguese international will discover if he can add a further accolade to his already extensive CV on Thursday 9 June.
