Donyell Malen ‘could leave Borussia Dortmund this winter’, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Dutch striker has attracted interest from Manchester United this window and the Red Devils would like to bolster their attacking numbers following a dismal scoring campaign from their offensive players.

Malen is a player the Red Devils have been monitoring ahead of the window, with the 24-year-old netting five times in 15 Bundesliga appearances this season. And according to Romano, Malen could be on the move in January.

“Donyell Malen could leave Borussia Dortmund this winter... on in the summer,” the reporter wrote on X. “January remains a concrete possibility, that's why Malen recently decided to sign with SEG as new agency.

“In case Sancho joins BVB, Malen's exit could become more likely waiting for proposals.”

With Sancho reportedly close to a return to Dortmund on loan, a move for Malen seems possible. However, if United were to bring in the ex-PSV Eindhoven star it would almost certainly be on loan.

Due to Financial Fair Play restrictions, United have little wiggle room in the market which makes permanent signings nearly impossible this month. But Sancho departing on loan and an already confirmed move for Donny van de Beek could free up some funds to complete short-term deals.

That was United’s approach last season, with Jack Butland, Marcel Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst all arriving on loan in January.

Malen being a client of SEG would also help, with Sofyan Amrabat and Rasmus Hojlund joining the agency, who also have Erik ten Hag as a client, prior to summer moves to Old Trafford. Malen was snapped up by SEG in November, presumably ahead of the January window.
