The defeat was a reality check for Erik ten Hag’s men amid improvements of late, and there is still plenty of work to be done.

Ten Hag will be under pressure to avoid further heavy defeats, given the City and Brentford losses, and in form Everton are next up in the Premier League.

In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest transfer news and rumours surrounding Old Trafford.

Ronaldo claim

Borussia Dortmund chief Joachim Watzke has claimed Cristiano Ronaldo ‘unconditionally’ wanted to leave Old Trafford in the summer.

“There has never been any contact between Ronaldo and us,” he told SportBILD.

“I immediately had the feeling that it could be difficult between United’s new coach Erik ten Hag, whom I also know a little, and Ronaldo.

“Ronaldo wanted to leave unconditionally, there is simply something lost in the interpersonal area.

“But when you see that United concede six goals at City and still manage to do without Ronaldo, the coach has to know what he’s doing.

The claims come after Bayern Munich chief Oliver Kahn said: “We briefly discussed Ronaldo at Bayern and Dortmund probably did too.

“We also see the big picture of the Bundesliga. Of course, superstars like Ronaldo are an important factor in attracting attention to the league. He is one of the greatest of the last decade. But we quickly dismissed that.”

Sesko interest

United are still said to be interested in RB Salzburg star Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko has already signed a pre-contract agreement with RB Leipzig ahead of 2023, but Leipzig could receive offers to sell the striker before they even get him.

And according to 90min, United are interested in a move for the 19-year-old, who has attracted attention from around Europe.
