Manchester United recently announced they will travel to Spain to take on La Liga side Cadiz in a friendly match on 7 December. Erik ten Hag’s side will be without 14 first team players for the trip due to them participating in the World Cup in Qatar.

Despite losing several key players to the competition, the Dutchman will be looking to those who remain in Manchester to secure a victory against the Spanish club. Notable names include first choice goalkeeper David de Gea, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial. The Red Devils finished their pre-World Cup fixtures with seven wins in their last 10 games in all competitions. During that period they progressed to the Europa League play-off round after finishing second in their group, reached the fourth round of the League Cup and sit fifth in the Premier League table after their opening 14 matches.

As for Cadiz, they have struggled in La Liga, winning just two of their 14 league games before the World Cup break. They sit 19th in the table and were also eliminated in the first round of the Copa del Rey following a 2-1 defeat to third-division side Real Union on 13 November.

The friendly fixture between the United and Cadiz will be hugely beneficial for players who were not selected to represent their nations at the World Cup, or those whose country didn’t qualify for the competition. It will allow them to gain much-needed minutes before the return of club football in late-December.

Brandon Williams is in contention to feature against Cadiz. The full-back, who spent last season on loan at Norwich City, hasn’t featured for United this campaign due to injury, but Ten Hag revealed he will travel to Spain next month.

“He is in a good way, he is back on the pitch and he will return to team training next week,” Ten Hag said in his pre-match press conference against Fulham. “He will go with us to the training camp in Cadiz, he will be available for the team, so happy for him.”

Elsewhere, David De Gea, Victor Lindelof, Anthony Martial, Scott McTominay and Donny vans de Beek are just a few names who are expected to feature against Cadiz, while young stars such as Alejandro Garnacho, Charlie McNeill and Zidane Iqbal could also make an appearance.
